On Sunday 17th July 2016 the One Church Leadership Team updated the church about the long-standing potential new site at Cromer Road which was promised to us by the Lind Trust. We explained why this was no longer a possible or desired option and also shared the reasons why we have decided to relocate from Drayton Hall in the Autumn, having come to the prayerfully-considered conclusion - with input from senior national leaders - that it would be in the best interests of the church on every level to move to an independent site where we, under the Lord’s direction, can be in control of our own destiny. If you missed the announcement, do feel free to speak to a member of the Leadership Team.
At the same time we were also thrilled to announce that we have secured an excellent new venue at the Hewett Academy in the south of the city, just 15 minutes drive on a Sunday from Drayton Hall. Our first service there will be in the Walter Roy Theatre on Sunday 2nd October 2016; our last service at Drayton Hall will be on Sunday 25th September 2016.
As well as being in a much more accessible city location for walking, driving and public transport, and also within easy reach of the A11, A47 and ring road (A146), the Hewett Academy is located in an area to which as a Leadership Team we feel our hearts increasingly drawn. The new location gives the church access to a mission field in the city where the gospel is much needed and where we believe there is room for the kind of church we envisage.
As we build a base in that region through our hire of the Hewett Academy for what we expect to be at least the next 18 months, we invite you to join us in believing God for a permanent site that the church will own in its own right around this new location so that we can continue to impact Norwich and the surrounding regions.
Of course, though different to what at one stage we may have been expecting, none of this has taken God by surprise and we see all this as God’s way of aligning us towards His perfect plan – his ‘A plan’ - for One Church.
We’ve been very encouraged by the response and enthusiasm from the church family since sharing the news. Thank you so much for standing with us.
We’ve also been encouraged that throughout our period of consideration about the way ahead in terms of sites and locations, timely prophetic words confirming the very things the Leadership Team felt God was saying came from respected figures, some of whom knew nothing about the matters we were having to consider at the time. God is indeed in control!
We’re on an awesome journey towards seeing lives and culture in our city transformed – to establishing a dynamic city church that is impacting the multitudes and reaching out to people from all ages, nations and backgrounds; a church that is going after the lost, the last and the least and making intentional and genuine disciples of Christ.
As we stay united and do our part – as we demonstrate daring faith, unswerving hope and radical love - we know we will see God’s kingdom come, in Norwich and beyond.
Be assured that as we keep our eyes on Jesus, He’s going to lead us not only into the next stage for this church but into His very best, better than what we can think or imagine – for His glory and for our joy!
